Shallow river waters often attract shore birds such as the two distant geese foraging in the mossy concrete-lined river bottom of Los Angeles River Painting 4. The Arts District, to the immediate west, bustles with new development and gentrification. Within the confines of the concrete banks of the river bottom silence and isolation prevail. The noise and hustle-bustle of the nearby city seems a world apart.
